Petition to Save the Wooded Hillock

Dear President Mote,

I am writing to express my opposition to the University's plan to destroy 9 acres of forest known as the Wooded Hillock to pave the way for the relocation of facilities services buildings so that the University can start construction on East Campus. We ask that the University uphold the University's vision of becoming a "national model for a sustainable campus" and:

1. Prioritize the guiding principles outlined in the Facilities Master Plan of environmental preservation, reduced vehicle use and congestion, community collaboration, and the preservation of green space
2. Investigate alternative locations for the relocation and place a moratorium on construction until an alternative site that meets the aforementioned principles is found
3. Begin a transparent decision making process that includes the entire campus community
